Kathryn Sprigg, Award winning photographer, showcases her talents and opens the door to her 12-year love affair, with New York.
Opening May 4th at Brookfield Place the solo exhibition pays tribute to the city that stole Kathryn’s heart, the city (much like herself) that never sleeps, New York City.
Born on a sheep stud in Western Australia, Kathryn claims that “It Was Love at First Sight” when she first visited the city in 2003. Since then, she has returned each year, with 2015 being no different, as she plans to blow the candles out in the City of Lights for her 40th birthday this September.
“It Was Love at First Sight”
After losing her mother in tragic circumstances 10 years ago, Kathryn made the decision pursue a career as a freelance photographer. Sprigg is fascinated with things which ordinarily go unnoticed. Known for fixating on life’s simple pleasures: a crumpled bed sheet, a child’s rainbow-coloured candy, a light bulb against an art deco sky. Sprigg’s trademark is capturing the beauty in everyday, and successfully manages to do so.
Oh, I Love You New York is a representation of the artist’s perception of photography: images captured on film which are a direct reflection of how she has perceived that moment in her mind. Perfect in composition, and visually raw – without the over-manipulation which afflicts so much of modern photography these days.
You can take the girl out of the country, and put her in New York, and she’ll never be the same.
Oh, I Love You New York will be showcased in the Lobby of Brookfield Place as part of the world famous Arts Brookfield program from 4th May 2015 – 15th May 2015. The exhibition is open to the public.
